Theme Word:
Proverbs 18:22 – He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.
Ephesians 5:21, 22 – Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
Proverbs 19:14 – Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
I. Submission:
- Ephesians 5:24 – Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
- Colossians 3:18 – Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord
- 1 Peter 3:1 – Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives
- 1 Peter 3:5 – For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands,
- Ephesians 5:33 – However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- 1 Peter 2:13 – Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority,
- 1 Corinthians 11:3 – But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God
II. Women’s Beauty?
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight
Song of Solomon 4:9-11
“You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than any spice! Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride; milk and honey are under your tongue. The fragrance of your garments is like that of Lebanon.
III. Wife Should not nag or fight always with the Husband
Proverbs 27:15 – A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping on a rainy day;
Proverbs 21:19 – Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife
IV. The Wife of Noble Character (Proverbs 31:10-31)
- A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
- Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
- She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
- She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
- She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
- She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.
- She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
- She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
- She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
- In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
- She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
- When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
- She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
- Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
- She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.
- She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
- She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
- She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
- Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
- “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
- Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
- Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
V. Husband’s Crown:
“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.” – Proverbs 12:4
Husband and Wives Duty:
1 Corinthians 7:3-5 – The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
